SAN LUIS OBISPO, CALIF. – The Hawai'i women's track and field team's heptathlon squad kicked off competition at the Big West Championships Friday, led by
Sammie Gordon who sits in third place after four events.
The junior placed first in two of the four events, coming in tied for first in the high jump with a mark of 1.67m (5-5.75) before taking home the victory in the 200m dash in 24.82 seconds to close out competition for the day. Gordon currently has 3,118 points and sits 134 points behind day one leader Hailey Fune' of Long Beach State.
Anna Marx holds the No. 8 spot on the table through four events with 2,968 points, highlighted by a personal best in the high jump. Marx cleared the bar at 1.64m (5-4.50) on her first attempt at that height to finish fourth in the event.
Catherine Touchette sits in 10th place with 2,695 points after day one, closing out the action with personal bests in the shot put and 200m, throwing 9.23m (30-3.5) in the shot put and running 25.99 in the 200m dash.
Grace Blanchette is 15th with 2,591 points highlighted by a PR in the shot put with a toss of 9.47m (31-1).
The Rainbow Wahine wrap-up action at the Big West Multis Championships with the final three events starting Saturday at 8 a.m. HT.
