Rainbow Wahine Turn in Strong Showing at Cardinal Classic

STANFORD, Calif. – The Hawai'i track and field team continued its outdoor season with a strong showing at the Cardinal Classic Saturday, picking up a trio of wins in field events in addition to a number of other solid performances.
 
"Great competition for the 'Bows in all event areas," said director of track and field program Tim Boyce. "Grateful to Stanford for accepting us into the meet on short notice and our women took great advantage of the opportunity."
 
Montserrat Montanes i Arbo posted the first Rainbow Wahine win of the day, claiming the hammer throw with a toss of 57.36m. Lilian Turban delivered the second victory of the meet for the Wahine, coming out on top in the high jump with a height of 1.79m. Turban also turned in a PR in the javelin, finishing in sixth place with a mark of 42.37m.
 
Hawai'i continued its strong day of throws by taking first and third in the discus. Hallee Mohr earned the win with a throw of 48.26m on her sixth and final attempt while Victoria Solheim placed third with a mark of 45.20m. Freshman Rose Forshaw came in sixth in the discus with a throw of 42.34m while also recording a PR in the shot put with a toss of 13.19m to finish second.
 
Tara Wyllie added to the success in the field events by finishing fifth in the triple jump with a personal best and Big West-leading mark of 12.41m.
 
On the track, defending Big West and MPSF indoor 200m champion Alyssa Mae Antolin ran a 24.06 to finish in fifth place, while also finishing fourth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.88. Sophie Morgan led the way for the UH distance crew with a PR of 17:39.75 in the 5k, finishing in 10th place.
 
The Rainbow Wahine closed out the meet by clocking a time of 3:49.24 in the 4x400m relay, as the squad of Amy Warrington, Antolin, Nikki Jennings and Izzy Peterson posted the fifth-fastest time in program history as well as one that topped all other marks in The Big West heading into the week.
 
Hawai'i will have this week off before returning to competition March 30-Apr. 1 at the Mike Fanelli Classic and Stanford Invite.
