SPOKANE, Wash.—The University of Hawai'i track and field team wrapped up its indoor season by finishing fourth in the MPSF Championships at The Podium Saturday afternoon.
The Rainbow Wahine totaled 64 total points, finishing behind BYU (170.5), Long Beach State (148.5), and UC Davis (72.5), but edged out Cal State Fullerton(56).
"Record-setting meet for the Bows," said director of track and field
Tim Boyce. "Great efforts by our team and coaches, records set for miles flown. We're excited to compete outdoors in a few weeks."
The event's second day was highlighted by sophomore
Lilian Turban claiming her first career high jump championship by clearing the bar at 1.82m (5-11.75) for a new personal record. Turban missed last year's championship but, throughout the season, has gradually improved, surpassing her previous mark of 1.80, keeping her name at No. 2 all-time in the UH record book.
Capitalizing on a big first day on Friday, sophomore
Sammie Gordon continued her upward climb, adding to the UH point total in the high jump and finishing at No. 4 with a height of 1.62m (5-03.76).
Gordon served as the anchor on the 4 x 400 relay team as UH set a new program record with a time of 3:47.93. Partnered with juniors
Alyssa Mae Antolin and
Amy Warrington, along with freshman
Izzy Peterson, the foursome finished third overall.
Antolin's day began with the finals of the 60m dash as she placed fifth, crossing the line at 7.59, finishing just shy of her new program record time from the prelims of 7.57. Peterson also set the tone for UH earlier in the day, finishing ninth overall in the 400m with a time of 56.22. Peterson jumped from No. 6 in the UH record book to No. 2, improving her personal record by nearly two seconds.
In the field events, junior Halle Mohr matched graduate
Victoria Solheim's distance of 13.51 from late January for a tie of the No. 8 spot all-time at UH, finishing eighth in the shot put.
UH will now set its sights on the outdoor season with the Ben Brown Invitational scheduled for March 10
th and 11
