Rainbow Wahine Head to Washington for the WSU Open

HONOLULU– The University of Hawai'i track and field team returns to Spokane, Washington, for the second time this season as they're set to compete in the WSU open hosted by Washington State University beginning on Thursday at The Podium.

The trip back to Spokane will be a friendly one for junior Alyssa Mae Antolin. Nearly two months ago, she recorded a time of 7.66 in the qualifying prelims of the 60m dash, placing her at No. 2 all-time in the UH indoor record book. Later in the event, Antolin took home first place in the 200m event, shattering her previous record, crossing the finishing line at 24.38.

Joining Antolin with a stellar day in early December was sophomore Lilian Turban as she cleared the bar in the high jump at 5-10.75 (1.80m) with not only a new personal record but No. 2 all-time at UH.

Aside from eye-catching performances to start the season, the 'Bows are coming off of the MLK Invitational hosted by the University of New Mexico just two weeks ago. Sophomore Helen Hoadley turned in a career day where she placed fourth in the pole vault with a mark of 3.85m (12' 7.5), giving her a new personal best while placing her at No. 4 at UH.

Adding to the production in the last meet was freshman Tara Wyllie who will look to build off her debut as she recorded a distance of 11.87m (38' 11.5) in the triple jump, placing at No. 7 all-time in the event at UH.

The WSU Open will span over three days beginning on Thursday with the pentathlon. Friday will feature several field events, such as the weight throw, high jump, and triple jump, early in the afternoon. A handful of track events will occur later in the afternoon, including the 200 meter. Saturday will be a full day of track and field events, beginning at 10 a.m. PT.
