Track & Field Earns Six Team Points in Week One of Big West Championships

DAVIS, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i track and field team earned six championship points for placements in the heptathlon on Saturday afternoon at Woody Wilson Track.
 
Sophomore Sammie Gordon finished in fifth place and earned four points, while sophomore Anna Marx finished in seventh and added two additional points to the Hawai'i total.
 
Gordon's performance was highlighted with an event win in the 800m run, where she posted a 2:21.79 and collected 799 points. She also finished top five in the long jump, where she marked 16'10 3/4" and added 601 points. Her lowest-performing event came in the javelin, where she threw 76'5", enough for 350 points. Her two-day total finished at 4459.
 
Marx collected a total of 4360 to finish seventh. Her best performance of day two came in the 800m, where she crossed the line at 2:30.05 for 692 points. In her javelin toss, she put up an 83'2" to accumulate another 389 points. Lastly, she leaped 16'6 1/2" for an additional 570 points in the long jump.
 
The Rainbow Wahine head into the second weekend with six points, good enough for third place. UC Santa Barbara leads the team scores with 16 points currently. UH returns to Davis in a week to complete the final two days of the Big West Championships.
