FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS – The University of Hawai'i track and field team arrived at the end of the 2022 season rainbow on Saturday afternoon at the NCAA West Prelims.
After completing the day, both athletes in their NCAA debut improved in position from where they were seeded. Freshman jumper
Lilian Turban placed 22nd in the high jump as she cleared 5' 9 1/4" on her last attempt. She improved two spots from her initial seeding to end her season.
Her season was highlighted by multiple events wins, and a stellar showing at the Big West Championships. She held the top mark in the NCAA for two weeks and culminated her debut season with two Big West Track Athlete of the Week Awards, along with an All-Conference Team appearance.
For sophomore discus thrower
Hallee Layman she entered the day seeded 40th but improved herself eight positions up to a 32nd place finish. Her second attempt of the day was marked at 161' 4".
Layman's improvements during the year led her to first place at the Big West Championship which was vital in keeping the 'Bows in a position to claim their best finish ever in a conference championship. She also earned a spot on the All-Conference Team.
"We're super proud of Lilian, Hallee, and the entire team for the season they had this year," said head coach
Tim Boyce. "The future is bright, but the present has been awesome!"
The Rainbow Wahine will return in 2023!
