SACRAMENTO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's track and field team wrapped up the competition with two event wins and a sixth-place finish at the Hornet Invite on Saturday. UH finished one point outside a top-five finish with 61 total points accumulated.
Junior distance runner
Sophia Morgan got the day started with a win in the 3000-meter steeplechase. She crossed the finish line with a time of 11:10.89, jumping up the school-record list to number four.
Sophomore discus thrower
Hallee Layman also claimed a top spot for the Wahine with a throw of 166' 7". She moved up to sixth all-time in school history with the mark.
Freshmen javelin throwers
Kiyah Bast and
Jessica Mackenzie finished fourth and fifth. Bast, in fourth, had a throw of 136' 10". While Mackenzie's toss came in at 129' 3".
After placing first in the Beach Opener two weeks ago, freshman
Lilian Turban took third in the women's high jump clearing the bar at 5'6.5". Turban led the NCAA for two weeks before being dethroned this weekend and now sits second in the country on the season.
Senior sprinter
Kristen LaCosse made her 400-meter hurdles final, taking third place. She came across with a time of 1:02.14. Her time puts her atop the conference performance chart on the season so far.
Rounding out the individual performances for UH was sophomore
Montserrat Montanes i Arbo in the hammer throw. She finished in seventh place with a distance of 173' 1"
The women's 4x100 M team comprised of senior
Kristen LaCosse, sophomore
Amy Warrington, sophomore
Alyssa Mae Antolin, and freshman Caitlyn Simmons ran a time of 47.44, earning them a second-place finish.
The Rainbow Wahine returns in two weeks, where the team splits between the Mike Fanelli Track Class running from Mar. 31 to Apr. 2 and the Stanford Invitational from Apr. 1 to Apr. 2.
