Rainbow Wahine Picked at No. 3 and No. 5 in Big West Conference Polls

HONOLULU- As announced by the Big West Conference on Tuesday morning, the University of Hawai'i women's basketball team was picked to finish at No. 3 in the media preseason poll and No. 5 in the coaches poll.

The 2020-2021 polls are different from years past as the Big West Conference has two new additions in UC San Diego and CSU Bakersfield, advancing the field from nine to 11 spots.

The No. 3 slot is an upgrade from the media poll a year ago as UH was slotted at No. 4. In comparison, the 'Bows move a spot down in the coaches' poll compared to last season from No. 4 to No. 5. Like the previous two seasons, UH did not have a player selected to the Preseason All-Conference squad.

Reflecting on the 2019-20 campaign, the Rainbow Wahine finished tied at the No. 2 position of the Big West standings, putting them at the No.4 spot with tiebreakers heading into the Big West Conference tournament. Due to COVID-19, both the conference tournament and the NCAA tournament were canceled without a champion being crowned.

The 'Bows do return three conference honorees from last season. Senior forward Amy Atwell, an All-Conference honorable mention and reigning Sixth Man of the Year, returns as the top-scoring threat. Sophomore guard Nae Nae Calhoun turned heads last season and was named to the All-Freshmen squad, while senior guard Jadynn Alexander was selected to the All-Defensive team.

As of date, the 'Bows could start their season as early as November 25th, but a non-conference schedule has yet to be finalized. The Big West portion of the schedule is set to begin on December 27th with the 'Bows on the road at Cal Poly.
