HONOLULU - University of Hawai'i track and field standouts
Kristen LaCosse and
Alexis Brenzil earned the right to compete in the NCAA West Preliminary scheduled for May 23-25 at Sacramento State University. LaCosse qualified in the 400m hurdles and Brenzil earned a place in the javelin field by putting up performances that rank in the top 48 in the NCAA's West Region.
For LaCosse, it is her first time making the NCAA Regional round. Her accepted 400m hurdles entry time of 58.83 is good for 22nd in the region heading into the event. Her time came at the Big West Championships earlier this month.
It is Brenzil's third time qualifying for the NCAA Regional in the javelin. Currently seeded 23rd in the region, Brenzil's best distance of the season of 49.58m (162'8") earned her the silver medal at the Big West Championships.
The NCAA Preliminary round in separated into West (Sacramento, Calif.) and East (Jacksonville, Fla.) with the top 48 competitors from both regions in individual events heading to the Preliminary Round. The top 12 Preliminary Round finishers in individual events from the West Region will advance to the NCAA Championships, as will the top 12 finishers from the East Region. The NCAA Championships are set for June 5-8 in Austin, Texas.
