HONOLULU – The University of Hawaiʻi women's track and field team had a strong showing at the Sunrise Meet #2 on Saturday morning at the Clarence T.C. Ching Athletics Complex.
Raion Black won the 100m in 12.10 followed by
Martina Latting in second in 12.24. In the 200m, Black and Latting again placed first and second with times of 24.81 and 25.78, respectively.
A trio of Rainbow Wahine performed well in the 800m led by
Jessica Cushing-murray clocking in at 2:20.66. She was followed closely by
Danielle Girard (2:21.93) and
Tristan Setzer (2:23.16).
UH's 4x100m relay squad comprised of Latting, Black,
Jordan Davis and
Charlie Poretti compiled the day's best time of 47.69. In the 4x400m relay,
Teuila Gardner, Setzer, Cushing-murray and Girard posted a 4:17.39 finish.
Kristen LaCosse posted a career best in the long jump, reaching 5.81m for first overall.
In the throwing events,
Alexis Brenzil excelled in the javelin with a mark of 48.53m.
Meg Jackson, who won the hammer with a distance of 47.00m and the shot put (12.13m), earned second in the javelin (39.86m) on the day.
Kathryn Philpott turned in the top discus performance on Saturday with a mark of 40.75 with
Brittany Kamau taking second in 39.52m.
Jada Pierce also had a strong day in the hammer, placing second with a distance of 45.63m.
Next up for UH is the Hornet Invitational March 15-16 in Sacramento, Calif.
