LaCosse Leads Rainbow Wahine at Hornet Invitational

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Closing the opening weekend of the outdoor season, the University of Hawaiʻi women's track and field team put together a number of strong performances at the Hornet Invitational on Saturday.

Kristen LaCosse stood out for her performances in a number of events. In the long jump, the sophomore earned fourth place by reaching 5.82m (19'1.25") on her fifth attempt of the day. LaCosse also impressed on the track, taking second in the 400m hurdles in 1:00.85 and fourth in the 100m hurdles in 14.22.

LaCosse went on to run the first leg of UH's 4x400m relay team - including Natasha Currence, Martina Latting and Raion Black -  that placed fourth in 3:53.98.

Latting ran a personal-record time of 12.07 in the 100m to secure 13th place on the day.

Jessica Cushing-murray, a graduate transfer from UCLA, turned in a 4:38.78 finish in the 1500m. The time was good enough for 14th on Saturday and qualifies her for the Big West Outdoor Championships.

The team of Latting, Black, Britney Price and Charlie Poretti put together a 4x100m time of 47.63 to take fifth. The effort is the fourth-best in UH history.

UH had four student-athletes surpass the Big West qualifying mark in the javelin led by Alexis Brenzil with a four-place mark of 47.44m (155'7"). Meg Jackson (41.88m - 137'5"), Kathryn Philpott (41.31m - 135'6") and Madelin Muilenburg (39.32m - 129") also performed well in the javelin.

In the pole vault, freshman Krista Rados and senior Nina Bean both cleared the bar at 3.55m (11'7.75") on the day for top 10 finishes. The height for Rados is a career best, while Bean set a new career best for the event outdoors.

In the 3000m steeplechase, Haley Beaumont turned in a time of 11:24.78 to secure 10th place. It was a personal record for Beaumont by 11 seconds and qualifies her for the Big West Championships.

Next up for UH is the Rainbow Relays on March 22-23 at the Ching Athletics Complex.
