HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i track and field team will travel to Seattle, Wash. to compete in the UW Invitational at the Dempsey Indoor on the campus of the University of Washington. The competition is set for Friday, Jan. 25 – Saturday, Jan. 26.
"We're very excited to open our indoor season in Seattle this weekend," head coach
Tim Boyce said. "The Dempsey is an awesome venue and we look forward to the opportunity to compete there as a team once again. Six athletes (two transfer and four freshmen) will be representing UH for the first time on the mainland."
This weekend's action marks the first of three trips to the facility this indoor season for the Rainbow Wahine. The 'Bows will also take part in the Husky Classic (Feb. 8-9) and the MPSF Championships (Feb. 22-23).
The first race for UH at the UW Invitational will be the 60m hurdles at 4:00 p.m. PT (2:00 p.m. HT) on Friday.
Although this marks the first indoor competition of the season, UH has been training throughout the fall and into the new year outdoors at the Clarence T.C. Ching Complex.
The Rainbow Wahine put together a strong showing at the Sunrise Meet #1 – a home outdoor meet – to start the season. Senior
Raion Black won the 60m (7.63), 200m (24.81) and was part of the victorious 4x400m relay team (4:04.49). Sophomore
Kristen LaCosse also notched two individual victories at the Sunrise Meet #1 in the long jump (5.78m) and 60m hurdles (8.87).
This weekend's action will feature UH student-athletes in a number of individual events in addition to the 4x400m relay and the distance medley relay.
