Mitchell Added to Rainbow Wahine Basketball Staff

HONOLULU- The University of Hawai'i women's basketball program and head coach Laura Beeman announced the addition of Khalilah Mitchell to its coaching staff on Wednesday morning.

"I am incredibly excited to welcome Khalilah (Mitchell) to our 'Ohana," said Beeman. "Her energy, enthusiasm and overall basketball knowledge will be a huge compliment to our players and our program. Her main focus will be player development and a system to implement this development into practice and games. Her intensity, attention to detail, and experience as a high-level player will transition into our program seamlessly. She is also known to tell a "corny" joke or two once in awhile."

Since 2016 Mitchell has served as an AAU assistant coach with West Coast Premier while also working as the director of program development with the University of Central Florida. Mitchell last coached at the collegiate level with UCF as an assistant from 2012-14, where she also served as a graduate assistant with the program from 2009-2011. During her five-year tenure with the program, UCF notched two Conference USA championships.

"I'm humbled and excited all at once," said Mitchell. "I can't find the words to express my excitement about this opportunity to return to coaching, but more importantly the opportunity to serve as a guide in the development of our ladies. I want to thank coach Beeman for awarding me the opportunity to continue my life's mission."

Before her coaching career, Mitchell was known for being a member of the Louisiana State University basketball squad from 2004-2008. During her five years on campus in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, one season lost due to injury, Mitchell was a part of five consecutive NCAA Final Four teams and three Southeastern Conference championships.
