The Hawai'i women's basketball team will officially get its 2017-18 campaign underway this week with a pair of road games in the Pacific Northwest. The Rainbow Wahine open the season at Portland on Nov. 10 (5:00 p.m. HT) before visiting Seattle U on Nov. 12 (11:00 a.m. HT).

Portland is coming off a 6-24 overall season and 4-14 mark in West Coast Conference play in 2016-17 and return two starters and seven letter-winners from last season. Forward Julie Spencer averaged 9.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per game last year while shooting 43 percent from the field. Spencer can also score from the perimeter, as she hit 20 3-pointers while shooting 34 percent from long-range last season. UH is 2-2 all-time against the Pilots, and 1-1 on the road in the all-time series. Portland won the most recent meeting between the two schools, beating UH 82-64 in the 2011-12 campaign.

The Rainbow Wahine wrap up the season-opening weekend at Seattle U on Sunday. The only previous meeting between the 'Bows and Redhawks came in 1984, when UH took a 60-50 victory in Honolulu. Seattle U is led by second-year head coach Suzy Barcomb, who compiled a 15-18 record in her first season in 2016-17. The Redhawks leading scorer and rebounder from last season, Alexis Montgomery, is back in 2017-18 after averaging 15.4 points and 8.3 rebounds per game last year.
UH is coming off a 12-18 overall season last year, and went 7-9 in the Big West Conference. Senior
Sarah Toeaina earned first-team all-Big West honors after averaging 13.5 points per game for the Rainbow Wahine last year.

UH will return next week for the Bank of Hawai'i Classic where it will play Northern Arizona on Nov. 17 in the home-opener. The 'Bows will also face San Diego on Nov. 19 in the tournament.
