Wahine Basketball Visits UC Davis In Rematch Of Big West Championship Game

DAVIS, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i women's basketball team wraps up its conference-opening road trip at UC Davis on Jan. 7 in a re-match of the 2016 Big West Championship game. Tip-off is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. (HT) in The Pavilion.
 
The Rainbow Wahine got the best of UC Davis to win the 2016 Big West Tournament last March, but the 'Bows will face a tough test on the road on Saturday as the Aggies own the best record in the Big West, at 10-4, and are coming off a 41-point road win over UC Irvine on Thursday. Hawai'i is 0-6 on the road this season.
 
Hawai'i (4-9, 0-1 Big West) is coming off a 68-57 loss at Long Beach State in the Big West opener on Thursday, despite a 20-point, seven-rebound effort from junior Sarah Toeaina. The Rainbow Wahine have the conference's best scoring defense, allowing 64.2 points per game, but manage to score just 55.9.
 
The Aggies are 1-0 in the Big West after their 89-48 win at UC Irvine on. Morgan Bertsch leads UC Davis with 17.1 points per game and adds 5.4 rebounds, while Dani Nafekh adds 12.4 points per game and Rachel Nagel contributes 10.3. Pele Gianotti leads UC Davis in rebounding with 5.8 boards per game to go with her 9.6 points.
 
Hawai'i is 8-4 all-time against UC Davis, and the two teams split a pair of regular-season games last season. After Saturday's contest, the Rainbow Wahine will return home to face Cal. State Fullerton on Jan. 12.
