Box Score HONOLULU -- The Hawai'i softball team suffered a 5-2 defeat to Texas in the second day of the Hawaii Pacific Health Rainbow Wahine Classic Thursday at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
The Rainbow Wahine were held to six hits on the night as they fell to 14-15 on the season and 1-1 in the tournament.
The Longhorns, who improved to 18-5 and 2-1 in the tournament, jumped ahead 3-0 with two runs in the third inning and added another in the fourth.
Hawai'i made some noise in the sixth as
Keiki Carlos opened the frame with an infield single. Two batters later,
Breanna Ojala singled to center as Carlos went from first to third. That brought up
Rachel Lack who doubled to the wall in left, allowing Carlos and Ojala to scamper home, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
But Texas would add insurance in the seventh on a two-run homer by starting pitcher Tiarra Davis to provide the final margin.
Kanani Aina Cabrales scattered nine hits in the loss, falling to 7-7 on the season.
In the first game of the day, the Longhorns rallied for two runs in the seventh and got the go-ahead run in the eighth to top Iowa, 4-3.
Hawai'i faces Iowa on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by Texas at 7 p.m.
