Wahine Basketball Hosts Bank Of Hawaii Classic Starting Friday

Game Notes | Free Youth Game Ticket Registration (Sunday)

HONOLULU – The Hawai'i women's basketball team is set for it's 2016-17 home-opener this week when it hosts Youngstown State on Nov. 18 at 5:30 p.m. on the first day of Bank of Hawai'i Classic action at the Stan Sheriff Center. The Rainbow Wahine will close the tournament on Nov. 20 against New Mexico State at 4:30 p.m.

The 'Bows come home from their season-opening road trip with an 0-2 record after falling at USC and CSU Bakersfield last week. Senior Briana Harris recorded her first career double-double at Bakersfield, finishing with 15 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Her 11.5 points per game lead Hawai'i, followed closely by junior Sarah Toeaina's 11.0.

The Rainbow Wahine will put their six-game home winning streak on the line against the Penguins on Friday. Hawai'i's last home loss came on Jan. 16, 2016 against UC Riverside by just three points, 77-74. Youngstown State dropped its first two games of 2016-17, losing at home to American and at Pitt. Friday's contest will be the first all-time meeting between Hawai'i and Youngstown State.

Hawai'i and New Mexico State will square off for the 34th time in program history on Sunday, and the 'Bows hold a slim 17-16 edge in the all-time series. Hawai'i has won the last two against the Aggies, including a 58-51 win in the last meeting on Feb. 16, 2012. New Mexico State won its season-opener against San Jose State, and will play at New Mexico before heading to Honolulu.

Also participating in the Bank of Hawai'i Classic is Sacramento State, which faces New Mexico State on Nov. 18 and Youngstown State on Nov. 20.

The Bank of Hawai'i Classic is the opening of a five-game home-stand for the Rainbow Wahine, who host San Jose State (Nov. 25), Oregon (Nov. 26) and Mississippi State (Nov. 27) in the Rainbow Wahine Showdown next week.
