PROVO, Utah – The top-ranked University of Hawai`i men's volleyball team fell to No. 6 Brigham Young, 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 18-25, 13-15, Saturday night at Smith Fieldhouse. UH concludes the regular season with a 23-5, 18-4 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation record, finishing the conference at No. 2 behind fourth-ranked UC Irvine.

The Rainbow Warriors are set to host seventh-seeded No. 11 Long Beach State, April 25 at 7:30 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center in the MPSF Quarterfinal round. UH dropped both matches at BYU in what was their first two-game series defeat of the season. The 'Bows were unable to shake an exasperating losing streak at Smith Fieldhouse to the Cougars, extending it to 14-straight.

Despite the tough loss, UH wraps up what has been one of the most successful regular-season runs in program history. With the post-season still ahead of them, the 'Bows have already won 23 matches for the team's winningest record since 2006.

Senior Brook Sedore recorded 21 kills for his fourth match in the 20-figure range of the season and also reached for a double-double after tallying a team-high 12 digs. While UH significantly improved its blocking numbers from Friday's match with Davis Holt dishing out 5 of the team's 9.5 blocks, the Cougars armored the net for 15.0 team blocks.

With intensity running high, the Warriors gave away a season-high 24 points due to service errors, heavily outweighing their five aces. UH additionally ended the night hitting at .250 (62-26-144) behind BYU's .325 (58-18-123). Phil Fuchs recorded a match-high 22 kills for the Cougars, while freshman Brenden Sander added 16.

UH stepped onto the court with momentum and started off with an 8-3 run for a 15-9 lead midway through in Set 1. However, the Cougars rallied back with a 7-2 advantage to bring themselves within just one point of the 'Bows, 19-18. After being matched point-for-point by BYU, Holt finally pulled the Warriors ahead with a kill followed by a solo block for a 24-21 lead. The Cougars scrambled to come back, with Brendan Sander dishing out a kill, but their final attempt was rejected by Holt and Sinisa Zarkovic (10 kills, four blocks, five digs) ,UH taking Set 1 25-22.

After trailing behind the Cougars to open Set 2, the Warriors pulled off a 6-2 run, Jennings Franciskovic (52 assists) topping it off with a tip and a triple-block assisted by Taylor Averill (11 kills, three blocks, two aces) and Zarkovic to tie it 10-10. The 'Bows eventually rallied back to seize a tight lead, but BYU was able to tie it six more times to follow and eventually broke away with an 8-2 run to win the set 25-21.

The 'Bows recovered from a five-point deficit in the middle of Set 3 with five unanswered points to tie it 16-16, but fell behind again 19-17. However, UH answered back, Sedore providing the framework for the Warriors' 5-1 run to recover for a 22-20 lead. Phil Fuchs was quick to respond for the Cougars with a kill followed by a block, tying it at 22, but Sedore topped off the set with two kills in a row to win it for the 'Bows.

UH quickly fell behind in Set 4 after BYU scored five straight to grasp a 13-8 lead. From there, the Warriors scrambled to chip away at the deficit, but were unable to overtake BYU as the Cougars won the set off of a 6-3 advantage.

The Warriors made a tight breakaway 9-7 after Averill went four-in-a-row at the service line, but BYU exploded for five unanswered points immediately after, setting the 'Bows back 12-9. However, with a kill by Zarkovic assisted by a BYU attack-error, UH began to climb back, Sedore bringing the Warriors within one-point after two kills in a row, 14-13. But in the final play of the night, an antenna violation was called on UH, ending it 15-13 in the Cougars' favor.

UH returns to the Stan Sheriff Center, April 25 for the MPSF Quarterfinal against Long Beach State.
