2026 Men's Volleyball Season In Review

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • Hawai‘i captured its third NCAA title in six years, defeating UC Irvine in the championship match in Los Angeles, Calif.
  • UH won a program-record 30 matches and finished the season ranked No. 1 in the final AVCA poll.
  • UH reached the NCAA title match for the fifth time in the last seven years.
  • Outside hitter Louis Sakanoko was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player while setter Tread Rosenthal and opposite Kristian Titriyski were also named to the all-tournament team.
  • UH began the NCAA Tournament with a regional final match-up against USC at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center, which marked the program’s first-ever NCAA home match. The contest drew an NCAA Tournament single-match record crowd of 10,300.
  • Hawai‘i captured its second outright Big West regular season title and third overall regular season title since the inception of the league in 2018.
  • Placed five players on the AVCA All-America team, including two on the first team – setter Tread Rosenthal and outside hitter Louis Sakanoko. Outside hitter Adrien Roure was selected to the second team while libero Quintin Greenidge and middle blocker Justin Todd were honorable mention honorees.
  • Rosenthal, who was one of four finalists for AVCA National Player of the Year, was the fifth Rainbow Warrior all-time to win Big West Player of the Year honors. 
  • UH led all Big West teams with five members named to the All-Conference first team – Greenidge, Rosenthal, Roure, Sakanoko, and Titriyski. The five first-team honorees marked the most by UH since six were named to the first team in 2023.
  • Greenidge earned College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honors.
  • UH led the nation in attendance for the ninth consecutive year with a season average of 7,221 per match, the third-highest single-season mark in program history and highest since the 1997 season.
  • Made its 11th all-time NCAA Championship tournament appearance and eighth in the last 11 seasons.
  • Finished as the nation’s leader in kills per set (13.51) for the fifth time since 2018. UH also finished No. 2 in assists per set (12.61), fourth in hitting percentage (.367) and blocks per set (2.56), and sixth in aces per set (1.75).
  • Sakanoko and opposite Kainoa Wade were both named AVCA Division I-II National Player of the Week. The team garnered a Big West-record 26 league player of the week awards, including 12 by Rosenthal (11 setter of the week, 1 defensive player of the week).

RECLAIMING THE THRONE: NCAA CHAMPIONS

As gold confetti rained onto the court in Pauley Pavilion, the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team celebrated its return to the NCAA summit.

The Rainbow Warriors overcame a slow start in the National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship final to surge to a four-set victory over UC Irvine and capture UH's third national championship.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP SEMIFINAL VS. LONG BEACH STATE

After falling to Long Beach State in the Big West Championship final, the 'Bows earned redemption with a four-set victory over the Beach to advance to the NCAA Championship final for the seventh time in program history.

NCAA REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL VS. USC

Playing an NCAA Championship match on their home court for the first time in program history, the Rainbow Warriors defeated the Trojans in four sets in the National Collegiate Men's Volleyball Championship Regional Final before a record crowd at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

  • AVCA All-America First Team: Tread Rosenthal (10.7 A/S, 39 SA, 1.45 DIG/S, 0.86 B/S) and Louis Sakanoko (3.16 K/S, 34 SA, 1.34 DIG/S)
  • AVCA All-America Second Team: Adrien Roure (2.92 K/S, 44 SA, 1.34 DIG/S)
  • AVCA All-America Honorable Mention: Quintin Greenidge (2.04 DIG/S) and Justin Todd (1.08 B/S, 29 SA)

All-Big West First Team: Tread Rosenthal (9.54 A/S, 6 SA, 1.03 B/S) Adrien Roure (2.28 K/S, 13 SA, 1.53 DIG/S), Kristian Titriyski (3.90 K/S, 8 SA, 1.43 DIG/S), Louis Sakanoko (3.09 K/S, 17 SA, 1.37 DIG/S), and Quintin Greenidge (1.97 DIG/S)

ROSENTHAL CLAIMS BIG WEST PLAYER OF THE YEAR HONORS

Rosenthal became the fifth Rainbow Warrior to win the top player award following two-time recipients Jakob Thelle (2022 & '23) and Rado Parapunov (2020 & '21). UH's five Player of the Year awards are the most in the league.

OFECK HAZAN EARNS ELITE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD

Hazan claimed the Elite Scholar-Athlete—formerly recognized as the Elite 90—award which is given out to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships.

ROSENTHAL NAMED SEMIFINALIST FOR AVCA PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

Tread Rosenthal was one of eight semifinalists for the inaugural AVCA Men's Collegiate Player of the Year Award, ranking second nationally in assists per set (11.01 avg.) and earning 10 Big West Setter of the Week honors at the time of the announcement.
