SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The No. 1 University of Hawai`i men's volleyball team (18-3, 13-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation) defeated UC San Diego, 25-10, 25-19, 25-14, Friday night at the RIMAC Arena. UH extends to an 11-match winning streak. 

Senior Scott Hartley led the Rainbow Warriors with nine kills, hitting at a career high .636 percent with just two errors in 11 swings. Brook Sedore and Taylor Averill additionally added eight apiece, with Sedore netting the 1,000th kill of his career - just the 15th UH men's volleyball player to do so. 

Averill, Sedore and Hartley, along with setter Jennings Franciskovic and sophomore Kupono Fey added two service aces each to combine for a season-high 10 aces, tying for third in the program's rally-scoring era records. 

The Rainbow Warriors opened the match with an explosive first set, hitting at .500 (10-1-18) over the Tritons' -.174 (5-9-23) for a 25-10 win. After reaching for eight unanswered points, the 'Bows took a dominating 20-7 lead capped off with a service ace by Sedore. UCSD was limited to just three more points in Set 1, as the Warriors quickly ended it with another ace by Jennings Franciskovic. 

After a rocky start in Set 2, the Tritons were able to tie it 7-7 with the Warriors. Clinching to a two point lead shortly to follow, the 'Bows climbed back with a 5-0 run to take the lead 19-12 with UCSD giving away three points due to error. The Tritons responded with three unanswered points, but UH quickly finished them off, 25-19. 

UH trailed behind the Tritons early in Set 3, 8-9 but after Sedore hammered down his eighth kill of the night to tie it 9-9, the 'Bows bounced back with a 17-5 run, winning the match 25-14. 

The Warriors will face UCSD again in a rematch Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. PT at the RIMAC Arena before heading to UCLA, March 29-30.
