LONG BEACH, Calif. – The No. 6 University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team swept No. 10 Long Beach State, 25-17, 27-25, 25-19 Saturday night at Walter Pyramid for a six-straight victory. The Rainbow Warriors advance to a 13-3, 10-2 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation record.

UH was led by sophomore Kupono Fey, who hit at a career-high .556 with 12 kills and just two errors in 18 swings. Seniors Taylor Averill and Brook Sedore additionally added nine kills apiece for the 'Bows.
Meanwhile, Dan Glamack hit a team-high 11 kills for the 49ers (8-8, 5-8 MPSF).

The Rainbow Warriors opened Set 1 with an explosive 5-0 run over the Beach, with senior Taylor Averill instantly dishing out a service ace to kick off the match. LBSU tightened up to match the Warriors point-for-point to follow and finally made a break through with a 3-0 advantage once the 'Bows hit 20. Despite having the lead cut down to five points by the 49ers, Fey stepped up with a kill followed by a double-block assisted by Sedore to end it, 25-17.

The 49ers footed a slight edge over UH after coming back from behind to tie it 15-15 midway through Set 2. The 'Bows rallied to tie it three more times to follow and finally pulled ahead with a 4-0 advantage with back-to-back kills by Fey to take the lead 21-18. With LBSU close on the Warriors' trail, Averill pounded out two kills in a row for set-point, 24-21. However, the Beach held on until the end, banging out a 4-1 run to cut off the 'Bows' twice to tie it at 25 but following an LBSU service error, senior Sinisa Zarkovic (six kills, four digs) fired out a service ace to end the set 27-25.

Outside hitter Fey led UH to an explosive 8-1 run over the Beach in Set 3, dishing out four kills and one service ace to give the 'Bows a commanding 18-10 lead. LBSU made many attempts to rally back but couldn't pull ahead of UH, as Hendrik Mol rattled down the game-winning kill to sweep the 49ers, 25-19.

UH returns home next week to host long-time conference rival Pepperdine, Mar. 6 and Mar. 8 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
