Round 1 ResultsWAHIAWA, O'ahu – The University of Hawai'i women's golf team is currently tied for fifth place after Tuesday's first round of the Rainbow Wahine Invitational during a gloomy day at the Leilehua Golf Course.
Juniors
Raquel Ek and
Izzy Leung posted solid rounds of 1-under 71 are tied for fourth place in the individual leaderboard. The duo was among a group of seven golfers to shoot under par on a day which saw constant drizzle and overcast skies. Ek bogeyed her first two holes then went on a tear, posting 4-under during an 11-hole stretch. She secured birdies on Nos. 3, 4, 9 and 15 while Leung recorded three birdies and two bogeys during her round.
Mississippi (294) holds the team lead by one stroke over No. 34 Brigham Young (295), followed by South Dakota State (297), Sacramento State (299) and UH and North Dakota State (300).
Individually, BYU's Brooklyn Hocker had the low score of 4-under 68 with only a blemish at No. 15 in an otherwise flawless round. Wyoming's Gabrielle Gibson and South Dakota State's Megan Mingo are two strokes back at 2-under 70. Ek and Leung are tied with Ole Miss' Abby Newton and North Dakota State's Emma Groom at 71.
Also competing for the Rainbow Wahine in the team portion are junior
Eimi Koga (78), senior
Nichole Cruz (80), and junior
Daezsa Tomas (81). Three others are competing as individuals – freshman
Kaci Masuda (79), sophomore
Lauren Kirkwood (86) and junior
Kelli-Anne Katsuda (86). Masuda is making her UH debut.
The tournament continues on Wednesday with Round 2 beginning with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
