Men's Tennis Swept By No. 63 Washington, 7-0

HONOLULU -- The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team was defeated on Thursday by No. 63 Washington, 7-0 at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The 'Bows now head down the West Coast to conclude their three-match road trip on Saturday against No. 33 San Diego.

In doubles play, UH's No. 1 duo of Nils Schuhmann and Carter Lam defeated the nationally ranked Huskies duo, No. 39 Emmett Egger and Jeff Hawke 6-4. Hawai'i's No. 3 pair of Chas Okamoto and Felix Albert lost to Huskies' Joao Barra and Mitch Stewart 1-6, while Kai Wehnelt and Marcel Chan fell 7-5, to Viktor Farkas and Gal Hakak in second doubles.

Hawai'i dropped the first four singles results which gave Washington the win. Both Wehnelt and Lam went to three sets against their opponents. Lam won the first set 6-4, but UW's Jake Douglas was too much for Lam in the second and third set, winning it 6-3 and 10-6 in the third set tiebreaker. Wehnelt edged out Stewart in the first set 7-6, but Stewart bounced back to even the match with a 6-2 win in the second set. Stewart then held off Wehnelt, 10-6 in the tiebreaker.

The Rainbow Warriors' match at San Diego will be on Saturday, January 31, at 10:30 a.m. PT.
