WAILUA, Kaua'i – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team moved up the leaderboard following the second round of the 38
th John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Thursday at the Wailua Golf Course. The "A" squad jumped four spots to 13
th place with a 590 total while the "B" team is in a tie for 14
th at 597.
Three-time defending champion California continues to lead the tournament at 16-under 560, nine strokes better than BYU and Texas A&M, who are at 569.
BYU's Justin Keiley, a Baldwin High School graduate, holds the round two lead at 10-under 134 after shooting the day's low round of 6-under 66. Keiley leads by four strokes over defending champion Joel Stalter, who shot 71 on Thursday and is 6-under 138 for the tournament.
UH senior
Nainoa Calip posted the "A" team's low score at 1-under 71 and is even par for the tournament (73-71), which is tied for 18
th. The Hilo, Hawai'i native was 3-under par through his first 11 holes, including back-to-back birdies at Nos. 11 and 12, his second and third holes of the day.
Also competing for the "A" squad, senior
David Saka made the turn at 2-under par with four birdies on his front nine and closed with a 73. The Honolulu native is tied for 48
th at 5-over 149 (76-73). Junior
Brian Lee posted another solid round of 1-over 73 for a 148 total and a tie for 39
th.
Freshman
Skye Inakoshi improved two strokes from Wednesday's opening round 76 to shoot 2-over 74, including birdies on his final two holes. The Honolulu native is tied for 56
th at 150. Sophomore
Scotty Yamashita struggled with an 80 and is tied for 80
th at 155.
The "B" team is led by sophomore
Justin Chu, who shot 73 and is tied for 39
th at 4-over 148 (75-73). Senior
Tommy Yamashita shot 75 and is tied for 48
th at 149 (74-75). Junior
Ryan Kuroiwa and freshmen
Zachary Braunthal and
Pono Tokioka each shot 76. Braunthal is in a tie for 64
th at 151 while Tokioka is 84
th at 156.
The tournament concludes on Friday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
