STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 8 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team snagged another Big West victory Saturday afternoon after edging past Pacific 12-11 at the Chris Kjeldsen Aquatics Complex. UH improves to a 15-9, 5-1 Big West record.
The Rainbow Wahine rallied back and forth with the Tigers from the start, with both teams neck-and-neck concluding both the first and second quarters with a 5-5 tie at halftime.
Danielle Lewis scored the first goal of the night just two minutes into play while
Monika Eggens took the lead in the first half scoring three of UH's five goals.
A strong third quarter proved benefitial to the Rainbow Wahine as they outscored the Tigers by just one goal, 4-3.
Amarens Genee found the net twice in the third with additional goals by
Emily Carr and
Paula Chillida Esforzado.
Pacific kept fighting until the very end, matching the Rainbow Wahine goal-for-goal. Even in the final seconds of play, Pacific's Malena Prlain scored one last goal but it was not enough to overcome UH.
Eggens led the Rainbow Wahine with five goals, while
Amy Carlson recorded two saves.
UH continues action tomorrow at the Bronco Tournament hosted by Santa Clara. The Rainbow Wahine are set to face Cal State East Bay at 9:20 a.m. PT and Colorado State at 12:00 p.m. PT.
