2026 Water Polo Season In Review

Water Polo 2026 Big West Championship Celebration

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • UH finished the season at No. 5 in the final Collegiate Water Polo Association and the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches polls.
  • UH claimed the Big West regular season and tournament titles for a third straight year after going 6-0 in conference play and went 3-0 in the Big West Championship to extend the program's conference win streak to 29 dating back to 2024.
  • The ‘Bows earned an automatic bid in the NC Women’s Water Polo Championship in La Jolla, Calif., and earned three consecutive NCAA tournament appearances for the first time in program history. 
  • UH swept the Big West's major awards for the second straight season and a total of seven members of the program received recognition from the conference.
  • Agatha Weston claimed Big West Player of the Year and All-Big West first-team honors. In her return from a redshirt season, Weston led the team with 56 goals and 34 steals.
  • Ariadna Temprano Xambó earned Big West Freshman of the Year, All-Big West first-team and All-Freshman team honors. Temprano Xambó led the team with 80 points, and ranked second with 44 goals and 36 assists.
  • Robinson won his second straight Big West Coach of the Year award after leading UH to a third straight undefeated run through the conference regular-season schedule and tournament.
  • The Rainbow Wahine earned three Big West Player of the Week awards — Agatha Weston (Jan. 21), Daisy Logtens (Feb. 18), Ema Vernoux (March 25).
  • Gabrielle Doyle won the NCAA women’s water polo Elite Scholar-Athlete award, carrying the highest cumulative GPA (4.0) among athletes participating in the NC Women’s Water Polo Championship. UH claimed the award for the fifth time in program history and the third consecutive season.
  • Agatha Weston scored five goals against Cal in the NCAA Championship and was named to the All-Tournament second team.
  • Agatha Weston was named the UH Athletics Department's Female Athlete of the Year at the H Awards.

Big West Coach of the Year

  • James Robinson: UH finished the year 16-6 (6-0 Big West) and swept the Big West regular-season and tournament titles for a third consecutive year in James Robinson's second year at the helm. Under his leadership, the Rainbow Wahine earned its third straight bid into the National Collegiate Women's Water Polo Championship for the first time in program history.

  • Agatha Weston: 56 goals, .549 SH%, 13 assists, 34 steals and 13 field blocks

 

Big West Freshman of the Year

  • Ariadna Temprano Xambó: 44 goals, .436 SH%, 37 assists, 19 steals and eight field blocks

 

All-Big West First Team:

  • Daisy Logtens: 166 saves, .461 SV%, 16 steals 
  • Ema Vernoux: 40 goals, .449 SH%, 15 assists, 13 steals

  • Daisy Logtens at Barbara Kalbus Invitational (Feb. 13-15): 24 saves and four steals
  • Agatha Weston at Fresno State Polopalooza (Jan. 17-18): Seven goals, .368 SH%, eight steals, two field blocks

GABRIELLE DOYLE WINS ELITE SCHOLAR-ATHLETE AWARD

Doyle claimed the Elite Scholar-Athlete—formerly recognized as the Elite 90—award which is given out to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's championships. UH became the first women's water polo program to receive the award in three consecutive years.

THREE-PEAT COMPLETE: BIG WEST CHAMPIONS

UH claimed the Big West regular season and tournament titles for a third straight year after going 6-0 in conference play and 3-0 in the Big West Championship. The Rainbow Wahine defeated Long Beach State 14-9 at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Complex in Long Beach, Calif.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

After claiming its third consecutive Big West tournament crown, UH earned its third straight bid to the NCAA Championships and its 10th appearance overall. The Rainbow Wahine faced Cal in a rematch of last season's NCAA Championships quarterfinal.
