HONOLULU—The No.15/20 University of Hawai'i softball team (33-8, 11-1 Big West) continues their 11-day roadtrip with a single game at Cal State Bakersfield on Tuesday and then a three-game conference series at Cal Poly this Friday and Saturday.
The Rainbow Wahine won their last series at Cal State Fullerton, 2-1, but had their 13-game win streak snapped by the Titans in the series finale on Sunday. The 'Bows won the first two games 14-2 in five innings and 8-4 before falling 11-3 in five innings. Despite the lopsided loss in the third game, the 'Bows remained ranked No. 15 in the National Fastipitch Coaches Association/USA Today Poll and at No. 20 in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll. Hawai'i remains in first place in the Big West with an 11-1 record with Pacific close behind at 10-4 and Long Beach State at 9-4.
Senior pitcher
Kaia Parnaby continues to lead the NCAA DI in wins with 30 and continues to be ranked No. 2 in the nation with 271 strike outs and No. 3 with 10 shutouts. Parnaby became just the third pitcher in UH history to win 30 games in one season on Saturday. She is currently tied with
Stephanie Ricketts from the 2010 season and is two wins shy of tying the program record of 32 set by Melissa Coogan in 2003. Parnaby is now 30-4 overall and 10-1 in conference games. Overall, she has an ERA of 1.42 in 232.1 innings of work. She has held opponents to a .191 batting average.
Currently, four Rainbow Wahine are hitting over the .300 mark. The 'Bows are led at the plate by senior centerfielder
Kelly Majam, who is hitting .331 (39-for-118) with a team-high 43 runs scored, 33 walks, nine stolen bases and 15 home runs. She also leads UH with a .797 slugging percentage and a .490 on-base percentage. In the series' opener at Cal State Fullerton, she tied her career-high crossing the plate four times in the game—for the series, she led the 'Bows with eight runs. Freshman rightfielder/pitcher
Keiki Carlos is second on the team with a .325 average with a team-high 40 hits, 11 doubles and she is tied with
Kayla Wartner with a team-high three triples. She has cranked six home runs while driving in 26 runs. Sophomore first baseman Leisha Li'ili'i is third on the team with a .316 average (36-for-114) and leads the 'Bows with 34 RBI and is second on the team with 10 home runs and 24 walks while junior second baseman
Jazmine Zamora has been consistent all season, hitting .312 (34-for-109).
About the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners (13-25, 8-8 PCSC)
The Roadrunners are coming off a series split at the University of San Diego, 2-2 with Mackenzie Zinger and Ashley Carter coming through with clutch RBI in the top of the seventh inning to propel the 'Runners to a 3-2 win over the Toreros.
Overall, Laura King leads CSUB with a .369 average, hitting 24-for-65 with four triples and a team-high seven stolen bases. Shay Fryer and Karissa Veiga are both hitting .327 with Fryer leading the Roadrunners with 36 hits, eight doubles and 18 RBI. Veiga is 35-for-107) and leads CSUB with 15 runs scored. As a team, CSUB is hitting .227 and the 'Runners like to steal bases with eight players having at least two stolen bases under their belts.
In the circle, Kelsie Monoe has seen the bulk of the workload, throwing 151 out of 246 innings. She is 10-14 with a 3.43 ERA in 30 appearances. She has struck out 93 while walking 42. Amber Mills is 3-10 with a 3.79 ERA in 20 appearances and 81.1 innings.
