HONOLULU – The 12th-ranked University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team needed four sets to defeat Pacific for the second straight night Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center. Set scores for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match were 23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 25-20.

The Warriors (9-14, 8-12 MPSF) defeated UOP for the 33rd consecutive time, a streak that dates back to 1997. UH has also won all 23 matches in Honolulu and leads the all-times series 42-1.

Hawai'i was led by sophomore opposite Brook Sedore, who tallied a career-high 21 kills while freshman outside hitter Sinisa Zarkovic added 18, one shy of his career-best. The rest of the Warriors combined for 20 kills.

As a team, the Warriors hit .248 and recorded 13 blocks, compared to only three one night earlier.

UOP was led by the one-two punch of Adam Troy (14) and Taylor Hughes (13), while the rest of the team combined for 15 kills. The Tigers (6-15, 3-14) hit .153 and tallied 11.5 blocks.

In a see-saw first set, the Warriors gained some separation at 22-20 after kills by Zarkovic and Sedore. The teams traded side-outs until Troy went back to serve. UOP scored four straight to close out the set, including an ace by Troy, which gave the Tigers set point.  Troy ended it with a backrow kill.

In Set 2, the Tigers led 15-12 before the Warriors reeled off four straight, which included an ace by Sedore. UH then scored four of the next five points for a 21-18 lead before the Tigers tied it with three straight of their own. A kill by Zarkovic followed by a double block by Sedore and Davis Holt of Troy gave UH a 23-21 cushion and UH sided-out to even the match at 1-1.

The teams battled it out again in Set 3, with the Warriors taking an 18-13 lead following three straight blocks by Nick West. UH pushed its lead to 19-13 before the Tigers rallied back to within three at 21-18.

In the fourth set, the Warriors rallied from a 16-13 deficit by scoring five straight, the last three on kills by Zarkovic. UH led 20-17 after an ace by Sedore and got to match point after consecutive kills by JP Marks.

The Warriors will next host UC Santa Barbara to close out the home schedule, Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30 at the Stan Sheriff Center.
