STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 11 University of Hawai'i women's water polo team finished fifth Sunday afternoon at the Stanford Invitational. After falling to No. 4 California 10-7, UH came back in a landslide 14-8 victory over UC Davis at the Avery Aquatic Center.

The Rainbow Wahine started off the morning two goals behind the Golden Bears 4-2 rounding off the first quarter at the Belardi Pool. UH managed to outscore Cal 2-1 in the second, but were still one point behind to end the first half 5-4.

Both teams matched each other goal for goal going into the final quarter 7-6. However the Golden Bears pushed past the Rainbow Wahine 3-1 in the final stretch to pull ahead for the win.

Paula Chillida Esforzado led the Rainbow Wahine with a hat trick, while
Monika Eggens and
Amarens Genee added two each.

The Aggies followed close behind the Rainbow Wahine to open the fifth place game, 4-3 in the first quarter. However, UH sprung away in the second, adding three goals to a silent UC Davis for a 7-3 halftime lead.

UH eased past the Aggies in the second half, outscoring them in both quarters 7-5 to finish them off 14-8.
