Day 1 Results
SEATTLE, Wash. – The University of Hawai'i track and field team set school records and 12 personal bests in its first-ever Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Indoor Championship, Friday at the University of Washington's Dempsey Indoor.
Sophomore
Zhane Santiago qualified for the finals of the 60-meter hurdles and set a new personal best in a sixth-place finish in the long jump. The Kahuku, O'ahu native, ranked 18
th heading into the meet, improved her previous best by nearly eight inches with a jump of 18-10 (5.74m) and scored three team points for the Rainbow Wahine.
In the pentathlon, three UH athletes – senior
Samantha Balentine, junior
Kaleigh Morrison, and junior
Michelle Wicker – achieved personal bests. Balentine placed fifth overall with 3,809 points and tied for the competition's best high jump mark at 5-8.75 (1.75m). Morrison took 14
th while Wicker placed 17
th.
Junior
Amanda Alvarez also competed in the pentathlon but did not complete the event. The Vancouver, Wash., no-heighted in the high jump and did not run the 800-meters due to a conflict with two other events. However, she broke two UH pentathlon event records – the 60-meter hurdles (8.82) formerly held by Annett Wichmann and the long jump (18-5.25/5.62m) set by Mallory Gilbert.
In the pole vault, senior
Camie Kohashi was UH's top vaulter with a huge personal best of 12-5.25 (3.79m) which tied her for 15
th.
In the 60-meter dash, junior
Ashley Satterwhite tied her UH record with a time of 7.79 seconds while in the 60-meter hurdles, freshman
Morgan Struble ran 9.04 seconds, bettering her former PR by nearly two tenths of a second.
The meet concludes on Saturday.
