HONOLULU – Jarrett Arakawa pitched eight innings of scoreless ball to guide the University of Hawai'i baseball team to a 4-0 win at Les Murakami Stadium on Friday night. The Rainbows evened the series at 1-1 and move to 15-12 on the season.

Hawai'i opened the scoring with a pair of runs in the second inning, a welcomed site for Arakawa. UH failed to score in his previous two starts but tonight gave him all the run support he needed. Collin Bennett (1 H, 1 R, 1 RBI) belted a triple to left centerfield in the fourth inning to score Pi'ikea Kitamura (1 H, 1 R) for the game's first run. On the very next at bat, Zack Swasey drove home Bennett with a double down the right field line. Swasey led the Rainbows hitting 3-4 with two RBI.

Arakawa improved to 3-2 and lowered his ERA to a Western Athletic Conference leading 1.32. He pitched his second shutout of the season, this one an eight-inning gem with five strikeouts.

Eric Johnson batted 2-3 to lead UC Davis, who fell to 11-11 on the season. Anthony Kupbens (2-3) was tagged with the loss, allowing four runs on nine hits in 7.1 innings of work.

Arakawa continued to turn back the Aggie batting order, and received a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning. AJ Bayus, starting for the just third time this season, doubled to the left centerfield wall to score Breland Almadova (2-4, 1 R). UH plated one more run before Brent Harrison came in to pitch a scoreless ninth inning.

The series continues with game three on Saturday. First pitch is set for 6:05 p.m.
