HONOLULU – After a slow start to the match, the University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team rallied past Cal State Northridge, 19-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-21, Friday night in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match at the Stan Sheriff Center.
The Warriors (13-11, 11-8 MPSF) were led by the one-two punch of All-Americans
Jonas Umlauft (28) and
Joshua Walker (14), who combined for 42 of the team's 52 kills. Umlauft hit .488 in 43 attempts, while Walker, who didn't have his first hitting error until the third set on his 25
th attempt, hit at a .393 clip.

Nick Castello had his best match of the season with 13 digs while middle blocker
Shane Welch had a team-high seven blocks. As a team, the Warriors out-hit the Matadors, .353 to .348 and out-blocked them, 12.5 to 7.
Matt Stork led the Matadors (6-19, 4-14) with 20 kills and three service aces. Tanner Nua added 14 kills and hit .444.
After a sluggish first set in which the Matadors hit a staggering .636, Hawai'i fought back in Set 2 taking a 15-12 lead at the media timeout and hanging on for a 25-21 victory.
The Warriors broke it open in Set 3 with a five-point run with the help of three straight Matador hitting errors and an ace by
Nejc Zemljak for a 22-16 lead.
With the score tied at 18 in Set 4, Umlauft hit consecutive kills and Walker launched one of his two aces in the match for a 22-18 cushion.
Steven Hunt closed out the match with his fourth kill.
The teams play again Saturday. Match time is 7:00 p.m. at the Stan Sheriff Center.
