Box Score

HONOLULU—The University of Hawai`i softball team defeated Chaminade in their first exhibition game of the fall, 11-1. Senior pitcher Stephanie Ricketts fired a two-hitter with a walk and 11 strike outs. On offense, Kayla Wartner, Jessica Iwata and Sarah Robinson all launched home runs to help power the 'Bows to victory on Friday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

Ricketts threw a complete game (seven innings), allowing one unearned run while facing just 25 batters. She induced the Silverswords to ground out nine times and had one fly out to leftfield.

The Rainbow Wahine got things going in the second inning. Alexandra Aguirre led the inning off with a double to the right-centerfield gap and was followed by Jazmine Zamora's single to short. Later a ground out to first moved both runners into scoring position for Dara Pagaduan who laced a single to left to score both Aguirre and Zamora.

In the third, the 'Bows opened the game up hitting three home runs. Wartner and Iwata started the inning with back-to-back home runs. Chaminade then relieved starter Kaitlyn Watanabe with Brett Aspel who got the first two batters she faced out but then gave up a single to Zamora followed by a home run by Robinson that gave UH a 6-0 lead.

Hawai`i added three runs in the fourth—two coming off a single through the rightside of the infield by pinch hitter Brynne Buchanan. Buchanan later scored on a double steal from third to increase UH's lead to 9-0. The 'Bows then tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning on errors.

Chaminade posted a run in the top of the sixth inning. Kori Berinobis drew a walk and worked her way around to score the Silverswords only run.

Chaminade's Watanabe threw two-plus innings, giving up four runs on six hits. Aspel threw the next 3.0 innings giving up seven runs on five hits with two walks and a strike out, and Elia Lizarraga fired the final inning allowing a hit with a walk and a strike out.

Hawai`i and Chaminade conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday morning starting at 10:00 am.
