HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team kicked off its spring season against No. 13 Louisville in the Rainbow Warrior Challenge Friday at the UH Tennis Complex.
The teams competed in both singles and doubles with the Big East champion Cardinal squad winning the majority of the matches. Louisville won eight of 10 singles matches, including a 6-4, 6-1 win by No.8 Austen Childs—the 2010 NCAA singles runner-up—over UH senior
Dennis Lajola on the feature court. The Cardinal also won three of four doubles matches.
UH, however, proved competitive and got impressive performances from a pair of freshman.
Jonathan Brooklyn pulled off an upset by defeating No.75 Viktor Maksimcuk in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Fellow freshman
David Schuster also was victorious taking down Adam Donaldson, 6-4, 6-4. The pair also teamed up to pick up UH's lone doubles win, a 9-7 victory over Robert Hall and Alejandro Calligari.
