Softball Concludes Roadtrip With 4-0 Win Over Grambling State

GRAMBLING, La. – The University of Hawai'i softball team (14-17, 2-1 WAC) concluded its roadtrip with a 4-0 win over Grambling State. Hawai'i's Stephanie Ricketts fired her third complete-game shut-out on the road scattering five hits and striking out seven, while Julie Franklin hit her second home run of the season.
 
The 'Bows posted a single run to start the game. Clare Warwick hit a single to deep short with one out to start the rally. Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu followed with a single to left. On the play, a fielding error by the leftfielder allowed Warwick to hustle home for the game's first run.
 
In the third, Tanisha Milca drilled a double to leftfield with one out. Warwick then hit a grounder to third, but a fielding error allowed Milca to score home as the ball rolled in leftfield. Warwick moved to second on a groundout to short by Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu. Then Warwick scored on an RBI single to right by Amanda Tauali'i, increasing UH's lead to 3-0.
 
Franklin led the fourth inning off with a bang, launching a solo home run over the left-centerfield fence. It was her fourth career home run.
 
Grambling State's Brandi Payne took the loss in a complete game effort. She gave up four runs on seven hits with no walks and four strike outs.
 
Hawai'i's Ricketts (9-5, 2-0 WAC), the reigning WAC Pitcher of the Week, tossed her 12th complete game and seventh shut-out of the season. She ended the roadtrip throwing a total of 24 innings without giving up an earned run.
 
The Rainbow Wahine return home to host the defending WAC regular season champions, Nevada this weekend in a three-game conference series. Friday's first pitch is at 6:00 pm and Saturday's double header begins at 2:00 pm at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.
