CORVALLIS, Ore. – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow baseball team (13-8) fell to the Oregon State Beavers (13-5) 8-4 at Coleman Field Monday, closing out a five-game road trip.
Harrison Kuroda (3-1) suffered the loss while Jorge Reyes (3-1) got the win for OSU.
Hernandez got the scoring started in the top of the second inning, blasting a solo home run, his second homer in as many games.
OSU responded with a run in the bottom of the second before scoring three runs in the third, giving the Beavers a 4-1 edge.
The Rainbows cut into the lead in the fourth inning as Hernandez drove in a run before
Kevin Macdonald came in on a bases loaded walk, cutting it to 4-3. UH looked to tie the score, but Hernandez was thrown out at the plate on a pitch that got away from the Beaver catcher, recording the final out while leaving two runners on base.
The Beavers added a run in the sixth and two more in the seventh to extend their lead to 7-3. Catricala then homered in the top of the eighth, before OSU scored the final run of the game in the bottom of the eighth, making the final 8-4.
The Rainbows return to the islands to face No. 18 Coastal Carolina for a four-game series at Les Murakami Stadium. The series opens with a game on Thursday, March 26, at 6:35 p.m. The teams will then play a doubleheader on Friday, March 27, starting at 3:30 p.m., before closing the series with a single game on Saturday, March 28, at 12:05 p.m.
