HONOLULU - The University of Hawai`i softball team (10-15) dropped both of its games tonight in the Chevron Spring Fling Tournament. The Bows' fell to Wisconson, 3-0, then in the nightcap, lost to No. 9 California 10-1 in five innings at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

The Badgers (8-16) scored all three of their runs in the top of the fourth inning. After a strike out, Theresa Boruta reached safely on a single to third. A wild pitch moved her to second and then she advanced to third on a shallow single to left by Leah Vanevenhoven. Olivarez then hit a grounder to the right side of the infield, the only play was to get the runner at first, allowing the run to score from third. Then the big blow came off the bat of Livi Abney, when she belted a home run over the right-centerfield fence, to push Wisconsin's lead to 3-0.
That's all the Badgers' pitcher Letty Olivarez needed as she held the 'Bows offense at bay, allowing just three hits, all were doubles, with a walk and seven strike outs.
UH's Stephanie Ricketts took the loss, throwing her seventh eighth complete game of the season. She actually retured the first 10 Badger batters of the game before their rally in the fourth inning. After the three runs scored, she faced just one batter over the minimum for the rest of the game. She gave up the three runs on six hits with no walks and six strike outs.
Audrey Andrade led UH, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of doubles. #Kanani Pu`u-Warren# got the only other hit for Hawai`i.

The ninth-ranked California Golden Bears jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. They were able to crank three home runs in the first inning for a quick 4-0 lead. Valerie Arioto led the game off with a home run to centerfield. Shannon Thomas reached on a single to left, but then UH was able to get two outs on a ground out to short and a strike out looking. Sanoe Kekahuna then drilled a two-run, home run over the right-centerfield fence and Taylor Kelly kept things going with a home run of her own to right-centerfield. Starting designated player, Makani Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu then entered the game in relief on the mound and threw the rest of the game.
Hawai`i tried to mount a rally immediately in the bottom of the first. After a ground out to second, Dara Pagaduan started things going by drawing a walk. Clare Warwick then got one of UH's two hits in the game, with a single to right-centerfield. A walk to Amanda Tauali`i loaded the bases, but Cal then turned a 1-2-3 double-play to squelch the rally.
In the second, Cal tacked on two more runs on an RBI ground out to short by Thomas that pushed Elia Reid across the plate and an RBI double by Bernice Masaniai that drove in the speedy Jamia Reid.
The Golden Bears then added one more in the third and three runs in the fifth.
The 'Bows got their only run in the bottom of the third. Tanisha Milca led things off by getting beaned. Pinch-runner, Mikalemi Tagab-Cruz then entered and advanced on a ground out to short. Later, Tauali`i hit an RBI single to centerfield to score Tagab-Cruz from second.
California's Marissa Drewey (12-4) earned the victory, throwing 5.0 innings, giving up one run on two hits with two walks and three strike outs.
Hawai`i starter Sarah Robinson suffered the loss in her first collegiate start on the mound. She threw 0.2 innings, giving up four runs on four hits with a strike out. Duhaylonsod-Kaleimamahu threw the final 4.1 innings, giving up six runs on nine hits with five walks and three strike outs.
Hawai`i continues play in the tournament tomorrow with a 5:00 pm game against Radford and a 7:00 pm matchup with Memphis.
