Men’s Swimming And Diving Drops Dual Meet Against California

BERKELEY, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's swimming and diving team opened the season with a 156-139 dual meet loss against California Friday afternoon in Berkeley, Calif.
 
In a close meet, UH won eight events, including both diving events and the 400-yard freestyle relay to close out the meet.
 
Newcomer James Clarke won two events, while sophomore Douglas Cohen swept the diving events.
 
Clarke won the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 9:32.93, with teammate Daniel Worden finishing second in a time of 9:44.50. Clarke's second victory came in the 500-yard freestyle when he won with a time of 4:35.46.
 
Cohen won the 1-meter with a score of 294.00, while teammate Thomas Rugg finished third with a score of 263.25. Cohen also won the 3-meter with a score of 309.90, while Rugg finished third with a score of 281.47.
 
Senior Davis Kane won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 45.91, while Sean Reilly finished third with a time of 46.37.
 
Sophomore Lazar Bogdanovski won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 1:48.19 and freshman Luca Mazzurana won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 49.67. Bogdanovski also finished second in the 200-yard IM and Mazzurana finished third in the 200-yard IM.
 
The meet was capped off with the 400-yard freestyle relay, which UH won in a time of 3:03.69. The team was made up of Kane, Ilia Reyes, Reilly and Mark Higley.
 
The Rainbow Warriors complete their road trip tomorrow when they face Stanford in a dual meet beginning at 1 p.m. in Palo Alto, Calif.
