Seven Members of Swim & Dive Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

HONOLULU — Seven members of the University of Hawai'i men's and women's swimming and diving teams were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team for their achievements in the classroom and pool, the organization announced Tuesday.

Four Rainbow Wahine and three Rainbow Warriors earned a spot on the NCAA Division I Academic All-District team. The Rainbow Wahine were represented by Kailee Chow, Eva Kovaluk, Isabelle Meraz, and Holly Nelson, while Krishna Clarke, Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo, and Zane Johnson were selected on the men's side.

To qualify for Academic All-District teams, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average, and compete in 75 percent of competitions or finish top-eight at a conference meet or participate in a national championship. 

Academic All-District honorees were considered for advancement to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. Student-athletes selected as CSC Academic All-America finalists are denoted with an asterisk and will advance to the national ballot to be voted on by CSC members. First-, second-, and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced April 28 (women) and April 29 (men).

Women

Kailee Chow, senior

  • Won the 100 fly (57.32) against Utah
  • Also won the 200 fly (2:04.16) and finished third in the 400 medley relay (3:47.97) against Pacific Lutheran
  • Earned three podium finishes against Alaska-Fairbanks, including wins in the 100 fly (56.34), 200 free relay (23.76 split), and bronze in the 200 medley relay (24.83)
  • Placed third in the 200 fly (2:04.38) and 400 medley relay (55.56 split) against Grand Canyon
  • Finished 11th in the 200 fly (2:05.76) at the Big West Championships
  • Academically, earned a spot on the Dean's List at UH for the College of Social Sciences
  • Community service: Volunteers at the Waipio Lo'i (taro patch) with the organization Papahana Kuaoloa. Also volunteered at various beach cleanup projects and she volunteered at several service projects through the UH Student Athlete Development. office

Eva Kovaluk, Sophomore - 

  • Earned bronze in the 400 medley relay (55.49 leadoff) at the Big West Championships
  • Also finished sixth in the 100 back (55.42) at the Big West Championships
  • Earned six podium finishes against Grand Canyon, including a win in the 200 medley relay (1:39.26)
  • Also won the 200 medley relay (27.02 leadoff) against Utah
  • Placed first in the 100 breast (1:07.42) against Pacific Lutheran
  • Academically, earned the Big West Commissioner's honor after earning a perfect GPA
  • Community service: Volunteered at local Senior's Meets and at rough water competitions. Also volunteered at the Rompré Marel dental clinic. And, when at home has helped young Canadian swimmers navigate the college recruiting process.

Isabelle Meraz, senior

  • Earned bronze in the 400 medley relay (54.49 fly split) at the Big West Championships
  • Also placed fourth in the 100 fly (53.85) and seventh in the 200 fly (2:01.08)
  • Won the 200 free relay (24.49 split) and 200 medley relay (26.59 leadoff) against Pacific Lutheran
  • Earned silver in the 100 fly (57.83) and bronze in the 200 medley relay (25.00 fly split)
  • Placed second in the 100 fly (57.83) and third in the 200 medley relay (25.00 fly split) against Grand Canyon
  • Earned bronze in the 200 fly (2:05.20) and 400 medley relay (3:47.97) against BYU
  • Finished fifth in the 100 fly (54.01) and eighth in the 200 fly (2:03.00) at the SMU Invitationa
  • Community service: Helped to do beach cleanups with the Eco Mermaid Conservation group with the swim team 

Holly Nelson, senior

  • Swam the 50 free (22.38) at the NCAA Championships
  • Nelson won six medals at the Big West Championships, including golds in the 50 free (22.28), 100 free (48.67), and 200 free relay (22.38 leadoff)
  • Nelson helped set a Big West record in the 200 free relay (1:29.39) with a leadoff time of 22.38
  • She also posted program Top 10 times in the 50 free (22.28, 2nd), 100 free (48.67, 5th), 100 fly (53.46, 5th) at the conference championships
  • Her 50 free automatic qualifying time of 22.28 was the fastest in the Big West
  • Nelson earned two Big West Athlete of the Week honors this season (Oct. 28, 2025, and Jan. 6, 2026)
  • Nelson captured one silver and four bronze medals at the SMU Invitational (Nov. 19-22, 2025).
 

Men

Krishna Clarke, sophomore

  • Finished second in the 400 IM (4:08.58) against Pacific Lutheran
  • Earned bronze in the 200 FR with a split of 20.61 against Grand Canyon
  • Placed top 12 in the 400 IM (3:54.27, 7th), 200 IM (1:48.15, 9th), 200 breast (2:00.28, 11th) at the Big West Championships
  • Academically is currently a student INBRE intern doing research in bioinformatics/biostatistics at the UH medical school.
  • Community service: Clarke has done 60 hours of community service volunteering at a local physical therapy office.

Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo 

  • Competed in the 1-meter and 3-meter dive competitions at the NCAA Championships
  • Placed fourth in the 1-meter dive (668.35) and 12th in the 3-meter dive (669.80) at the NCAA Zone E Diving Championships earlier this month
  • Set Big West records and secured golds in the 1-meter dive (360.70) and 3-meter dive (393.45) at the Big West Championships. He also earned silver in the platform dive (390.20) at conference championships
  • Won the 3-meter dive at the SMU Invitational with a mark of 379.35
  • Also won the 3-meter competition at the CBU Diving Invite with a score of 355.50
  • Earned gold in the 1-meter dive (329.18) against Utah
  • Won the 1-meter (338.40) and 3-meter dive (386.18) against BYU
  • Recorded program top 10 marks in the platform (413.85, 3rd), 3-meter (393.45, 7th), and 1-meter (360.70, 8th).
  • Academically, earned the Alston Award for excellencer in the pool and in the classroom.

Zane Johnson

  • Won the 200 fly (1:48.77) and finished third in the 400 IM (4:03.96) against Grand Canyon
  • Placed second in the 200 fly (1:48.37) against BYU
  • Finished third in the 400 IM (4:09.37) against Pacific Lutheran
  • Placed sixth in the 200 fly (1:47.48) at the SMU Invitational
  • Finished seventh in the 200 fly (1:47.90) at the Big West Championships
