2025-26 Men's Swimming & Diving Season In Review

Men's Swimming & Diving 2026 Championships Celebration

SEASON HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Rainbow Warriors also earned their first league title since 2024 and earned 780 points with 22 podium finishes, including 12 gold medals.
  • The Rainbow Warriors collected four of the Big West’s major awards, while a total of 12 men earned All-Big West honors.
  • Karol Ostrowski, Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo, and Tom Thalau competed for the Rainbow Warriors at the NCAA Championships.
  • Karol Ostrowski set program records in the 100 back (45.96) and 100 free (42.08) at the NCAA Championships in Atlanta, Ga.
  • UH Head Coach Steve Allnutt was named Big West Men's Coach of the Year after he led the program to a conference title, guided two swimmers to NCAA automatic qualifying marks, and oversaw three Big West record-breaking swimming performances.
  • Brandon Blaisdell was named Big West Men's and Coach of the Year for a second straight season and earned his third consecutive conference coach of the year sweep.
  • Ostrowski earned Big West Men's Swimmer of the Year honors after he posted a meet-high seven podium finishes, including six gold medals in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 back, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, and 400 free relay at the Big West Championships.
  • Oliver Wignall claimed Big West Freshman Diver of the Year honors after he earned bronze medals in the 1-meter (294.55), 3-meter (305.30), and platform (354.50) in his championship debut.
  • UH tallied a total of 27 athletes on the All-Big West team, earning a combined 69 all-conference honors. The Rainbow Warriors accounted for 12 selections and 37 honors, while the Rainbow Wahine totaled 15 members and 32 honors.
  • The Rainbow Warriors earned three Big West Athlete of the Week honors, including honors for Mario Surkovic (Oct. 14), Tim Brown (Dec. 30), and Karol Ostrowski (Jan. 6). 
  • UH was named to the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) Scholar All-America Teams for the Fall 2025 semester.
  • Three Rainbow Warriors (Krishna Clarke, Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo, and Zane Johnson) earned a spot on the NCAA Division I Academic All-District team.

BIG WEST CHAMPIONS

The Rainbow Warriors claimed the Big West Championship and its seventh overall conference crown with a 780 point performance that included 12 gold, four silver, and six bronze medals. UH clinched the title in the final event of the meet outlasting Grand Canyon in the 400 free relay by 3/100th of a second.

NCAA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Rainbow Warriors Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo, Karol Ostrowski, and Tom Thalau competed at the NCAA Championships as UH sent its most individual swimmers to the NCAA Championships since 2019.

2026 S&D Big West Awards

Big West Men's Swimming Coach of the Year

  • Steve Allnutt: In his second year has head coach, Allnutt led the program to a conference title, guided two male swimmers to NCAA automatic qualifying marks, and oversaw three Big West record-breaking swimming performances at the conference championship.

 

Big West Men's Swimmer of the Year

  • Karol Ostrowski: Ostrowski earned Big West Men's Swimmer of the Year honors after he posted a meet-high seven podium finishes, including six gold medals in the 50 free, 100 free, 100 back, 200 medley relay, 200 free relay, and 400 free relay at the Big West Championships.

 

Big West Men's Diving Coach of the Year

  • Brandon Blaisdell: After another dominant year on the boards, Blaisdell was named Big West Men's and Coach of the Year for a second straight season and earned his third consecutive conference coach of the year sweep.

  • Oliver Wignall: Wignall earned bronze medals in the 1-meter (294.55), 3-meter (305.30), and platform (354.50) in his conference championship debut.

BIG WEST ATHLETE OF THE WEEK AWARDS

  • Mario Surkovic at Triton Invitational (Oct. 10-11): Recorded five top-five finishes, including two victories (200 IM and 200 free relay), and helped UH set a new Canyonview Aquatic Center pool record in the 200 free relay (1:18.99) with a split of 19.19.

 

  • Tim Brown vs. Utah (Dec. 22): Brown won the 50 free (20.76) and helped the 'Bows clinch silver in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

 

  • Karol Ostrowski vs. BYU (Jan. 6): Ostrowski led the Rainbow Warriors, winning four golds in the four events he entered including the 50 free (19.63), 50 back (21.49), 50 fly (20.91), 400 free relay (43.68 split).

CSCAA SCHOLAR ALL-AMERICA TEAM

The Rainbow Warriors were named College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Teams for the Fall 2025 semester with a cumulative grade point average of 3.00.

CSC ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT

Rainbow Warriors Krishna Clarke, Juan Esteban Ramirez Tamayo, and Zane Johnson were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. To qualify, the student-athlete must be at least a sophomore, maintain a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade point average, and compete in 75 percent of competitions or finish top-eight at a conference meet or participate in a national championship.

RECORD-SETTING SEASON

Alongside Ostrowski's two program-record swims at the NCAA Championships, the Rainbow Warriors rewrote the record books with six additional program or conference records during the postseason.
