HONOLULU - The No. 16 University of Hawai`i softball team (5-0) won a pair of games on the third day of the Oceanic Time Warner Cable Paradise Classic at Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium. In their first game, Kate Robinson threw a three-hit shut-out of Kentucky in a 6-0 win. Then in their second game, UH's Courtney Baughman earned a complete-game win over Long Beach State, 6-1.

Kentucky 0, Hawai`i (6)
Against Kentucky (2-7), UH was held scoreless for the first two innings. But in the third, the 'Bows broke through, scoring four runs. First, Katie Grimes drilled a solo home run over the left-centerfield fence to lead the inning off. Richie-Anne Titcomb followed by drawing a walk. Then Tanisha Milca moved Titcomb to second on a single to left. Clare Warwick then hit a grounder to short. The UK shortstop tried to get Milca at second, but her throw was wild and sailed into rightfield, allowing Titcomb to score from second. Kaulana Gould then ripped a double over the centerfielder that drove in both Milca and Warwick to push UH's lead to 4-0 after three complete innings.

In the fifth, Julie Franklin entered the game, and in her first at-bat of the season, she cranked a two-run home run to left. She drove hit Malamaisaua Manuma who was hit by a pitch earlier.

On the mound, Robinson did not give up a hit until the fourth inning. She ended up scattering three singles, walking one and striking out six in seven innings pitched.

Hawai`i 6, LBSU 1
In UH's second game of the day, it was LBSU that jumped out to an early lead. The Beach's Lacy Tyler launched a solo home run to left in the first inning to go up 1-0.

But after that home run, Baughman settled down and did not give up another run for the rest of the game. In seven innings, Baughman spaced four hits, walked none and struck out three. Baughman faced only 23 batters, two over the minimum of 21, retiring the last 10 in a row.

The defense also helped, turning two inning ending double plays. In the second, LBSU's Ashley Weber hit a liner to Franklin at short who then threw to Titcomb at second to double off Brooke LeSage who tried to slide back. Then in the fourth, the Beach's Jennifer Griffin got a double to left-centerfield with one out. The next batter, LeSage then ripped a line shot to Milca in right. Milca raced in to catch it off her shoetops and she fired to Franklin at second to get Griffin out.

On offense, UH scored its first run in the top of the third. Hawai`i started the inning with three straight singles from Titcomb, Milca and Warwick. With the bases loaded, Gould lifted a sacrifice fly to leftfield, allowing Titcomb to score from third. But LBSU got the next two outs to squash the rally.

In the sixth, Hawai`i pulled away. Robinson led the inning off, and she muscled a home run over the left-centerfield fence. It was her second of the year. After two quick outs, LBSU walked Malamaisaua Manuma and Grimes. This proved costly, as Titcomb followed by drilling a home run to leftfield.

One insurance run was added in the seventh when Brandi Peiler hit an RBI double to right-center. Coming home on the play all the way from first was Gould, who had reached on a fielder's choice earlier in the inning.

The two wins advanced UH to the championship game of the Paradise Classic tomorrow at 2:00 pm, with a second game at 4:00 pm if necessary.
