HONOLULU -- The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (15-29, 4-14) fell to the Fresno State Bulldogs (25-22, 13-8) 5-1 in the final game of their three game series Sunday at the Les Murakami Stadium.
Ricky Bauer (1-5) got the loss for the Rainbows while Zach Minor (5-3) picked up the win for Fresno State.
The two starters sailed through the first five innings of the game before the Bulldogs jumped out to a three run lead in the sixth inning. two of those runs came on a sacrifice fly where Scooter Martines caught a ball in foul territory while slamming into the bullpen fence.
Hawai`i picked up a run on an RBI single by Julian Russell in the seventh before Fresno State added two runs in the eight and one in the ninth to take the game 6-1.
Leading the way for UH was Tim Montgomery, who went 2-for-4 with a double. Danny Mocny also added a double with a run scored. Bauer ended the day with 6.1 innings pitched, giving up three runs while striking out three.
The 'Bows will now head on the road for a three-game conference series at San Jose State starting May 3. Following that series, Hawai`i will come home for their final home series of the year against Louisiana Tech from May 9-11. The series will mark the last time that nine Rainbow seniors play at the Les Murakami Stadium.
