HONOLULU -- The UH Rainbow baseball (9-18) defeated the Birmingham-Southern Panthers (14-12) 2-1 in their first game of the Ohana Rainbow Easter Tournament Tuesday at the Les Murakami Stadium.
Sean Yamashita (1-2) earned his first win of the year while Jon Renfro (3-2) got the loss.
Matt Le Ducq picked up his first save of the year.
Hawai`i got both of their runs on a two-out triple by Derek Honma that scored two runs. From there the UH pitching took over as Sean Yamashita went 6.2 innings, giving up just one run on four hits. Matt Le Ducq then came in and avoided a no-out, bases loaded eigth inning to pick up the save. Le Ducq ended the day with 2.1 innings pitched with no runs, three hits and four strikeouts.
Scooter Martines was out of the starting lineup tonight with an injured shoulder with his status unknown for tomorrow's game.
In earlier action today, San Jose State survived Hawai`i Pacific 2-0 and Lewis-Clark State beat UH-Hilo 10-2.
Tomorrow's schedule will start with UH-Hilo playing San Jose State at 10 a.m. in the morning game. Following that game will be two televised games. The first will be between Lewis-Clark State and Hawai`i Pacific, scheduled for 2 p.m., then followed by Hawai`i and UC-Riverside at 6:35 p.m.
