HONOLULU -- The University of Hawai`i Rainbow baseball team (7-12, 0-3) fell to the No. 4 Rice Owls (15-4, 3-0) 13-4 in the series finale at the Les Murakami Stadium Sunday. The ticketed attendance for the game was 2,758 with Jeff Niemann (3-0) picking up the win.
Aaron Pribble (2-2) suffered the loss for the Rainbows.
The Rainbows held an early lead in the first inning when Scooter Martines hit an RBI double to right field. Rice then took the lead with a three-run third inning and never looked back.
After they got a run in the bottom of the third, the Rainbows saw the Owls come up big with a six-run fourth inning to go up 9-2.
Rice added four more runs, including two home runs in the eighth while Hawai`i got two more to end the game with the 13-4 score.
Gregg Omori had a good game, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Chad Boudon came in and hit a home run in his only at bat of the game. Martines also added a 2-for-4 performance with an RBI and a run scored.
Hawai`i will now travel for the first time this season to Hilo for a four-game series with the UH-Hilo Vulcans. The first game will be on Friday, March 15 at the Francis Wong Stadium.
