Biography

2004 (Senior): Served a back-up role at quarterback...saw limited action in seven games...completed seven passes for 84 yards...also rushed 12 times for 102 yards...passed for a career-high 65 yards (6-of-14) and rushed six times for a career-high 58 yards at UTEP (Oct. 16). 

2003 (Junior): Served a back-up role at quarterback...played in one game...completed one pass for nine yards against Army (Nov. 22)...also rushed once for three yards against the Black Knights.

2002 (Sophomore): Redshirted after transferring from Eastern Michigan.

Prior to UH: Played one season for Eastern Michigan...started seven games as a freshman quarterback for the Eagles in 2001...led the team in passing, completing 140-of-267 passes for 1,504 yards and 14 touchdowns... also finished second on the team in rushing with 177 yards...threw for 392 yards and a school-record six touchdowns in final game of the season, an overtime loss versus Akron...named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week for his performance.

Prep: A 2001 graduate of Mountain View High School in Tucson, Ariz... lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track...named all-league twice and was an honorable-mention all-state selection in football... also earned all-league honors in basketball...member of the National Honor Society and the Principal's List.

Personal: Born in Honolulu...father is a former assistant coach at Hawai`i and Arizona, and is currently the co-defensive coordinator at Texas... parents are Donna and Duane Akina of Austin, Texas.
