2005 (Freshman): Started all 55 games, 52 at shortstop, two at designated hitter and one at second base…earned second-team all-WAC honors…named a Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American…finished the year with a .307 batting average, leading the team in runs (45), triples (three) and steals (31)…also had 21 RBI and 11 doubles…had 22 multiple-hit games…started off the season on an 11-game hitting streak…went 9-for-20 with five runs, five RBI and four stolen bases in the series vs. Pacific (2/17-20)…went 4-for-6 with a double, one RBI, one run and one stolen base vs. Sacramento State (3/1)…earned WAC Player of the Week honors after going 7-for-12 with seven steals and seven runs vs. Florida State (3/10-12)…batted .615 with three RBI, three doubles and two runs in the series vs. San Jose State (4/1-3)…also played well at San Jose State (4/22-24), batting .545 with three runs, three RBI, a double and a stolen base…went 6-for-13 with five runs, two RBI and four doubles vs. Nevada (4/28-30).

Prep: A 2004 graduate of Canyon Springs High School in Moreno Valley, Calif...lettered four years...earned all-Ivy League honors all four years...a two-time all-CIF honoree...earned underclassman all-state honors during junior year and first-team all-state honorable mention honors.

Personal: Born in San Jose, Calif...favorite athlete is Cesar Izturis...also recruited by Arizona State, Texas, Miami (Fla.) and UC Irvine...other favorites include the TV show, "Viva La Bam," carne asada and In-n-Out burgers, books, "A Tale of Two Cities" and "Fingerprints of the Gods," and singer Tim McGraw...names meeting Harold Reynolds as his biggest thrill as an athlete...has one older sister...parents are Lilia Martinez of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Michael Spiers of San Bernardino, Calif.
