GAME STORYLINES
  • Hawai'i and San José State will play for the Dick Tomey Legacy Trophy when the teams meet for the 48th time.
  • The Warriors are 22-24-1 all-time against the Spartans and are looking to snap a five-game losing streak to SJSU that dates back to 2020.
  • UH's last win over San José State came in 2019, when the Warriors won 42-40 in a game in which neither team punted. The game was also the first one contested for the Dick Tomey Legacy Trophy, which was established to honor the legendary coach who led both programs.
  • The 47 all-time meetings between the two schools mark the second-longest series for Hawai'i against any opponent, trailing only the 57 meetings between UH and Fresno State.
  • Prior to San José State's current five-game winning streak, the Warriors won 14 of the previous 18 matchups. UH is 5-7 against the Spartans since the two schools joined the Mountain West.
  • This week's matchup features two of FBS' four Polynesian head coaches - Timmy Chang (UH) and Kenny Niumatalolo (SJSU). UH opened the season against Stanford, coached by another Polynesian, Tavita Pritchard.
  • Six UH coaches and five SJSU coaches are alumni of the Hawai'i football program (UH: Timmy Chang, Chris Brown, Derek Faavi, Chad Kapanui, Jordan Pu'u-Robinson, Lance Samuseva; SJSU: Ken Niumatalolo, Brian Norwood, Craig Stutzmann, Billy Ray Stutzmann, Kolney Cassell). SJSU OL coach Ramsen Golpashin was also a UH graduate assistant in 2015.
  • The Warriors are 9-2 in their last 11 games at Ching Complex dating back to the final game of 2024. UH is averaging 29.2 points per game while giving up just 18.7 per contest during that span, with all but three of those wins coming by at least two possessions.
  • Quarterback Micah Alejado is second nationally with 27.3 completions per game and third with 109 total pass completions. Alejado is also second in the Mountain West in passing yards per game (255.0).
  • Alejado needs 289 passing yards for 5,000 in his career. He would become just the 11th player in program history to reach that mark.
  • The inside receiver duo of Tama Uiliata and Kaikai Carvalho are the only pair of teammates in the top five in the Mountain West in receptions. Uiliata is tied for second in the conference with 24 receptions while Carvalho is tied for fifth with 18 catches.
  • Former Warrior backup quarterback Luke Weaver is now the SJSU starting quarterback. Weaver started two games for UH last season and threw the game-winning TD pass with 10 seconds remaining in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl.
