Former player Lance Samuseva rejoined the UH football staff in February 2026 for his second stint coaching the Rainbow Warrior defensive line.

COACHING HIGHLIGHTS

During his first stint on the UH staff, he helped mentor a number of standout defensive linemen, including Kennedy Tulimasealii, who led the Mountain West Conference with 18.5 tackles for loss en route to All-MW second-team honors in 2015.
Also worked with Beau Yap, who earned All-MW honors and was named the team's defensive MVP in 2013.
Assisted with a 2013 Rainbow Warrior defense that ranked 11th nationally in passing defense (182.8 yards allowed per game), 31st nationally in tackles-for-loss (6.67 per game), and 4th in the Mountain West in total defense.
Also spent a decade coaching at the prep level in Hawai'i, including serving on the staff at Kamehameha Schools and Punahou School, while mentoring numerous players who Division I scholarships.

Played in 49 career games, making 39 starts at defensive tackle, and accumulated 154 tackles, including 12 tackles-for-loss, and four sacks for the Rainbow Warriors.
A member of two bowl teams.
Awarded as the team’s Most Inspirational Player during both his junior and senior years.
Earned an invitation to the 2004 Hula Bowl following his senior year.
Played professionally in Italy for the Bergamo Lions in 2004 and with the Rockford Raptors of the Indoor Football League in 2005.
