ATLANTA, Ga. — University of Hawai'i's Micah Kaonohi-Kaihenui was announced Tuesday as one of 113 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) nominees for the prestigious 2026 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List.

The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is college football's premier award for community service and stands as one of the most meaningful honors in collegiate sports. The award recognizes student-athletes who excel on the field and in the classroom while dedicating themselves to making a positive impact and serving others in their communities

The award is named in honor of Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback from the University of Florida, whose career on the field was followed by a lifetime commitment to service, leadership, and unity

Kaonohi-Kaihenui has been active with numerous community service projects, ranging from food drives to environmental restoration projects. The senior tight end from Waimanolo, O'ahu, was a key member of the special teams unit last season. He was also named to the 2025 academic all-Mountain West team and is a three-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete as a psychology major. 

For the third consecutive year, the Wuerffel Foundation is partnering with Allstate and the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). In September, 11 student-athletes from the watch list will be named to the esteemed Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and will serve as the semifinalists for the Allstate Wuerffel Trophy.

Finalists for the award will be chosen by the National Selection Committee with the help of a fan vote. The 2026 recipient will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards show on Dec. 11, 2026, and will serve as the captain of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. The formal presentation will take place in February 2027 at the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta.
