Barfield Named To Paul Hornung Award Watch List

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Hawai'i running back and return specialist Cam Barfield is among 39 players nationally selected to the 2026 Paul Hornung Award Preseason Watch List.

Now in its 17th season, the Paul Hornung Award is given annually to the most versatile player in major college football by the Louisville Sports Commission in memory of the late football legend and Louisville native Paul Hornung.

Barfield, a senior from Las Vegas, Nev., enters his third season as a Rainbow Warrior. Last year he earned all-Mountain West second team honors as a kick returner. He was also a crucial piece in the UH offense, starting three games at running back.

Barfield  finished second on the team in all-purpose yards (944) and total touchdowns (8) in 2025. As a kick returner he averaged 28.7 yards per return and in Mountain West play led the conference with a 34.0 yard average. He returned a kickoff 86 yards for a touchdown in UH's win over San Diego State and earned Mountain West Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts.

As a running back, he was a weapon both on the ground and in the air. He averaged 4.6 yards per carry and tallied a team-high four rushing touchdowns. He also added three touchdown catches, while five of his total touchdowns on the year came on plays of 20 yards or longer.

The winner of the Paul Hornung Award will be honored at the annual dinner in Louisville, Ky. In March 2026.
